The Sitar is probably the most popular musical instrument of India and is considered to be one of the predominant concert instruments of North Indian classical music. It is a plucked stringed instrument that produces a distinct sound. The most distinctive property of the instrument are the movable curved frets which can be repositioned to allow fine tuning.

Amir Khusro is believed to be the founder of the Indian Sitar.  Khusru was a great personality and is an icon for the early development of Hindustani Sangeet. The word Sitar is actually of Persian origin. The source of inspiration in creating the sitar has been derived from the liberal & tolerant islamic thinking for different religion and culture of that period.

In the late 50’s, the Sitar reached the western world through the works of Pandit Ravi Shankar. It became a huge sensation in the 60’s after the Beatles’ George Harrison took lessons from Shankar and used the Sitar for a number of recordings.

The instrument has gotten recent publicity boost due to the Sitar Hero phenomena which was a spoof of the best selling video game Guitar Hero. Another help was a feature in the Mike Myers’ movie The Love Guru.

American Idol star Jennifer Hudson will be performing to this year’s Superbowl. Hudson has not been in the public eyes since the family tragedy although she has released her latest album shortly after the killings.

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy confirmed Wednesday that Hudson will sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl in Tampa, Fla., on Feb. 1. E! News first reported Tuesday that Hudson would perform.

She has been nominated for four Grammys this year. This will be a good comeback for her and her talent will surely be appreciated.
